New Education Policy of India 2020
A new education policy has been granted by central government. The education policy of India has been changed after a very long time of 34 years. There are major reforms in higher education, Indian knowledge system, languages, cultures and values, school education.
Major Reforms : School Education
- Universalisation of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE)
- National Mission on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy. In this process kids age between 3 to 6 years will focus on basic numeracy and literacy
- 5 + 3 + 3 + 4 Curricular and Pedagogical Structure
- Curriculum to integrate 21st century skills, Mathematical thinking and Scientific temper. Also, students of class VI will learn coding and Artificial Intelligence
- No rigid separation between Arts and Science, between curricular and extra-curricular activities and between vocational and academic streams
- Education of gifted children: It means extra talented students which generally exists 3 – 4 % should be treated with well-defined structures.
- Gender Inclusion Fund
- Kasturba Gandhi Bal Vidyalayas which generally run upto 8th or 10th grade has been upgraded to class 12th
- Reduction in curriculum to core concepts
- Vocational Integration from class 6 onwards
- New National Curriculum Framework for ECE, Teachers and Adult Education
- Board exams will be low stakes, based on knowledge application
- Medium of instruction till at least Grade 5 and preferably till Grade 8 and beyond in home language/ mother tongue/ regional language
- 360° holistic progress card of child: It mainly depends on the views of teacher, views of his fellow classmates and the child himself.
- National assessment center – PARAKH
- NTA (National Testing Agency) to offer common entrance exam for admission to (HEI) Higher Education Institutions.
- National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST)
- Book Promotion Policy and Digital Libraries
- Transparent online self disclosure for public oversight and accountability

- Regulation-self-disclosure and Minimum human interface
- Increasing Access for Disadvantaged Groups (i.e., Economically weak, specially challenged person)
- Divyang Friendly Education Software

- Digitally equipping schools, teachers and students.

- Holistic and Multidisciplinary Education flexibility of subjects

- Integrated 5 Year Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree
- M.Phil to be discontinued
- Credit Transfer and Academic bank of credits
- HEIs :Research intensive/teaching intensive universities and autonomus degree granting colleges
- Model multidisciplinary education and research university (MERU)
- Graded Autonomy :Academic , Administrative and Financial
- Phasing Out Affiliation System in 15 years National Mission on Mentoring
- Independent Board of Governor (BoG)
- Single Regulator for higher education (excluding legal and medical)
- Online self disclosure based transparent system for approach in place in place of inspection
- Common Norms for public and private HEIs:
- Private Philathropic Partnership
- Fee Fixation within broad regulatory framework
- National Research Foundation (NRF)
- Internationalisation of education
- Integration of vocational,teacher and professional education
- Setting up of new quality HEIs has been made easier
- Standalone HEIs and Professional Education Institutions will evolve into Multidisciplinary
